We all like dressing tastefully to create great looks, but not without the pitfalls of the fashion mistakes we are prone to make from time to time. We all make them, there is no gainsaying this– even celebrities and prominent personalities known to be sharp dressers do make fashion guffaws at times.
A busy schedule that keeps you rushing to and from work, trying to stay on top of things about your favourite team, turning out for a date and having to read your kid her bedtime story are just a few activities that might turn you fashion blind because you did not have time to follow up on what is trending in your copy of Lifestyle Magazine!
grim fashion mistakes
This article is meant to get you in the loop so that you are not spotted as a cretin wherever you turn up. If you are single, fashion blunders can project you as a popular court-jester rather than the prince charming you wish to be. It is hard to deny that refined tastes in clothing is not a many a man’s strength, but you can certainly do better than go out in a crinkled and creased attire just because you were to busy cheering your soccer team instead of ironing.
Why meet your date, or worse, go into the office looking as though you slept in your clothes?
Avoid too much glitter such as shiny suits and iridescent shirt. Go instead for subdued quality men’s garments in lush fabrics like cashmere, fine wool and soft leather (not pants though). These shout loud but smell cheap from a mile away.
Is the logo wearing you or are you wearing the logo. Do not overdo the designer thing. Showing designer emblems prominently has a little snob value, but too much of it will detract from the image you are trying to project as a style-savvy man about town. Instead, it will make you look like a walking billboard.
No one pays you rebate for free advertising, so showcasing one or two quality pieces is not a bad idea. But the thing to do is to go for well cut, trim and flattering pieces that can accentuate your looks no matter who the designer is.
Spotting something on TV worn by a celebrity, seeing it in a fashion magazine or while window shopping and buying on impulse because you think you like it has been a source of fashion disaster for many women. Regardless of the amount of time you spend in front of a mirror preening and carefully apply make up and adding accessories, if it is wrong it is wrong.
Women who do not think about their skin tone almost always end up with the wrong colour choices by taking what is appealing to the eye. Add scruffy shoes, clear bra lines, and wrong coloured pantyhose, under arm stains or slipping slips and you can be sure that you have ruined your dressing however pricey it is.
